On Friday morning, Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson named the victims at a news conference.

No further details about the shooter’s identity have been released due to his age. In all, the suspect shot seven people Thursday in the Hedingham neighborhood of northeast Raleigh, near Osprey Cove and Bay Harbor, just after 5 p.m.

The incident began around 5 p.m. when the shooter opened fire in the 6000 block of Osprey Cove Drive before reaching the Neuse River Greenway in a residential area northeast of downtown.

Police cordoned off the area and searched for the killer for hours before cornering him at a home near Old Milburnie Road around 9:37 p.m. and taken into custody.

It is currently unclear how the 15-year-old sustained the injuries that required his hospitalization

OFFER OF CLAIM Two other victims shot in the incident were treated for injuries at a local hospital. One of those victims was a senior Raleigh police officer who had non-life-threatening injuries, according to Raleigh police. As of Friday morning, the investigation is still active.

The city of Raleigh has closed the Neuse River Greenway trail between Buffalo Road and Anderson Point Park while the area is under investigation. The trail stretches for 27.5 miles in Wake County. The rest of the greenway will remain open, according to a statement.

Another surviving victim, identified as Marcille Gardner, 59, remained in critical condition.

Patterson said Torres was off duty but was on her way to work Thursday when she encountered the shooter.

Patterson did not name the 15-year-old suspect, but said he was in critical condition at the hospital. The boss did not comment on a possible motive or future accusations.
